Just be aware that there are a lot of fake Honda gennies about, there was a really good buyers guide on eBay about them.Sadly my budget does not extend that far. I currently have a 2.7kW generator which has fulfilled my needs until now. I have been offered (and accepted, although no money changed hands yet.) a nice looking 5.2kW (6.5kva) Honda generator for only 300 euros, although I don't know much about it. But to push up to an 8 or 10kW genny would cost more like £6-800 or more, which is somewhat outside of my budget.
This R-tech model recommended says "16A 240v input required for welding at 135amps"
That means a total draw of 3.8kW, which seems quite reasonable for my genny to keep up with.
ALTHOUGH - I just found the owners manual for this Honda G300 - It looks like it has manually controlled throttle... Is that good or bad? Could I just set the genny to produce the 4kW I need for the welder max load, or will that cause it to overload or burn out at the times I am not striking an arc?
More - Is there something that I can connect to the generator to absorb the excess power when I'm not striking an arc? Like a fat resistive heating coil plugged in to one of the outputs?
More more - I just had a chat with an electrical engineer friend of mine, who told me this is a good solution for preventing the generator from overloading, and I should be able to use pretty much any cheap fan heater for this.
