Was it @eLuSiVeMiTe who mentioned an aftermarket brand of battery which he said seems reliable?

Don't think they do Makita though
Got two genuine 6ah from the bay for £155 (twin pack) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-G...=p2349624.m2548.l6249&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0No 5Ah in stock, apparently very very scarce on the ground and they've been warned its only going to get worse on the back of some lithium supply issue.
He could do me genuine 6Ah at £85 ea +VAT. B@ll@cks to that, looks like I'll be digging out my corded and extension lead like in the old days.
All part of the grand Chinese plan I reckon, make the West reliant on this stuff then turn the tap off!
There are a few giveaways for me to confirm they are genuine, firstly they are not far off the price from better known vendors when I get them I’ll have a good look and compare to my other 6ah batteries and then run them in my 2x18v mower and compare side by side to be sureI would avoid ebay for genuine... there are way to many counterfits on there, and you won't know until it dies and you try to get it replaced.
Pay the extra £5 from a known brand dealer
given the number of fires or close calls have seen I would avoid all non genuine lithium batteries
Apparently some are so good the only way to tell is to open them or plug in to a diagnostic chargerThere are a few giveaways for me to confirm they are genuine, firstly they are not far off the price from better known vendors when I get them I’ll have a good look and compare to my other 6ah batteries and then run them in my 2x18v mower and compare side by side to be sureI agree you do have to be careful, given how much I’ll be using them I’ll be able to get a refund within the eBay returns window if they are fake.
We’ll see, I remember project farm or similar saying there are some high end fakes… I’m presuming i’ll find out by using my mower as it will really put them through their paces. ive seen that loads with fakes.
i keep telling dad its stupid to buy fakes but will he listen?
Check individual (pair of) cell voltages, I expect one is out of balance, the charger checks this each time I believe
By the tome you have fixed them you could have bought genuine
