Well these appear to be w@nk! Bought a pair in July. Used at the weekend in my genuine Makita impact driver. One failed instantly. The second has one bar but put in the genuine Makita charger and though it appears to start charging the red fault light soon appears. Only a matter of time before it dies I guess.

I picked up an old 14.4v Makita drill and impact driver set cheap at a car boot, expecting the batteries wouldn't charge. I was right, so I ordered two of the replacements from Amazon, they work, charge, give good power but die quickly. In contrast the 10.8v set I've had for about ten years still work perfectly and if I hadn't knackered the drill by twisting it and levering on it I would still use that for light stuff. The impact driver is perfect for small stuff still.

Bought a replacement dyson cordless battery off amazon, so far seems just as good as the original. It lives in the garage and only used for car cleaning so not very regularly used.

I still have one, red, 12V Makita Ni-Cad battery that charges and works. Must date about 20 years ago. The other Ni-Cads and Ni-mh of the same vintage are all dead.

I've just mailed the seller asking if they could respond to that and my previous two messages. Furthermore that the batteries have both failed within 3 months and that I'd like my money back.

Not hopeful as I say.

My Makita red batteries are now both U.S. The green light comes on the charger almost straight away saying they are charged but they only last a couple of minutes. I've read all the reviews of the after market batteries and decided to try an Erbauer 18v drill from Screwfix with two 4.0ah batteries and so far it's been brilliant putting up clips for conduit and drilling holes in 3mm metal and the first battery indicator is still on 4 bars. I'll probably not use it more than a couple of times a month so time will tell on the battery endurance. I'd like to re-cell my Makita batteries to use it just as a screwdriver probably but cost is the thing.

I'm now down now to one, a good few years old, 3Ah clone BL1830 which tbh has been brilliant. I have seriously hammered it too. Seller of that is forgotton/long gone but clearly it was a "good 'un". I only got the Vanon 5Ah ones recently as I'd taken the two 3Ah to a site for work and one died. Tbh I should have tried to get work to pay for it!

Think I'll go for a couple of 5Ah again. Guess it makes sense to stump up for genuine ones?

Well, I buy genuine and don't have many issues. Some of mine are several years old, even the 3Ah one which came with my first Makita LXT tool is fine.. Yes, there probably are some decent copies out there but finding them is a lottery. I'd rather pay a bit more, and it's not a lot more than copies when my brother gets them. They are doing 6Ah now as well although they are disproportionately expensive compared the 5Ah one, i.e. not just 1/5th more expensive.

Makita genuine 5ah 18v are the sweet value point. Could get em for £50 each not too long back.

I don't mind copy tools but I do mind copy batteries. I hate the idea of cheap lithium ion cells with cheap protection circuitry that might set on fire when I'm not in my workshop.

Just looked on their site and they don't list Makita batteries unless I'm missing something?

My batteries have both failed, wont hold charge for any length of time.
Anyone tried the ones of Amazon about £22.00 They are the 18v PA18 ones old red ones.

at £44.00 for a pair, i may just get a bare new drill as i have a charger and battery for my cordless circular which uses the xtc ones but seems a shame to ditch the drill body.

I bought a 3.0ah one like that from eBay about 4 years ago for £20.00 delivered. I've used it a fair bit (most days) and have to say it's better than the original batteries. I get a lot more torque with this battery fitted, and it lasts longer between charges. They might not all be as good as this one, but I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I still have many of my original 3ah batteries that still work, must be over 9 years old. I’ve just forked out for two genuine 6ah batteries as it’s very convenient not having to regularly recharge them and for high energy devices they last a more useable length of time. I was tempted by the copies but It seems very hit and miss, the dewalt and hitachi copies I’ve had were useless. I don’t doubt you can get lucky but for me it’s not worth the hassle for a few quid which you may end up spending anyway if your cheap battery fails after a few weeks.

No 5Ah in stock, apparently very very scarce on the ground and they've been warned its only going to get worse on the back of some lithium supply issue.

He could do me genuine 6Ah at £85 ea +VAT. B@ll@cks to that, looks like I'll be digging out my corded and extension lead like in the old days.

All part of the grand Chinese plan I reckon, make the West reliant on this stuff then turn the tap off!

Both my original 3.0Ah died.

One of two different clone 3.0Ah batteries is still going well.

These Vanon are pants with both 3 month old 5.0Ah dying.

Considering that £149.99 Screwfix deal...

just bought a waitley 5 ah battery and gave it some stick with a 20mm masonary drill and the armeg channel chissel and it held up well

I WAS doing similar with the Vanon ones. Big masonary bits, carbide grit hole saws in bricks etc. Then they died. Got a link to the Waitley ones. Someone else rated Yaber clones.
