If you deliberately touch an electric fence; does it still count as a shock?

Old game keeper's trick, or farmer's who knows - hold a leaf, touch the fence with the leaf, to tell you if it's live or not and hurt a lot less than just touching it.

Seeing as this thread has swerved off topic already... I've been shocked a few times, 240v, still here, first time when 2 years old I've heard electricians say they've been shocked lots of times too with no ill effect. Do you develop a resistance to it do you think?

A woman down the road from me when I was a kid died cutting through what she thought was a dead lighting cable in the attic with a pair of scissors.

No resistance -- in the sense you mean -- I think.

Even further off track, when I was a kid we had lead sheathed lighting cable in our loft and if the lights flickered my father would move the cables until they came back on

An old electrician in Cardiff used to test 415v equipment by touching earth with one hand and parts of the circuit with the other - anywhere he didn't get a "feel" from his finger, had a fault.

As a party trick he'd get someone to set a voltage on a big old variac (variable voltage transformer) 0 - 500v, he'd grab the output and would tell you the voltage within +/-5v.

How could he do that & live ?? it was all big 100a 415v industrial stuff. Any explanations ?

With 415V there is only 230V phase to earth, so no difference to single phase. It only gets exciting when you go between phases!
