AIUI the story goes something like... the family that started screwfix sold it to whoever owns B&Q and signed an X years non-compete as part of the deal. X years and a day later they opened Toolstation, built it up and then sold that to Travis Perkins/WickesI think (I could be wrong) they are even owned by the same parent company!!
Yeah, I heard about the Toolstation thing, (I didn't know it was now owned by Travis Perkins, you learn summat new every day!) - the one in Chester is directly opposite Screwfix
there all next to each other thats the general idea. toolstation is slightly cheaper on all there stuff so when people go to screwfix they see them and price there as wellYeah, I heard about the Toolstation thing, (I didn't know it was now owned by Travis Perkins, you learn summat new every day!) - the one in Chester is directly opposite Screwfix
thats cos most people are half baked and wouldnt know good gear if it slapped them in the face ive only been in b and q 5 times in my life and that was 4 too manyI didn't realise that, but as it's the same people who set Toolstation up then I guess it makes sense! I imagine the staff glaring at each other over their counters
I find Toolstation can be cheaper, but for some stuff the quality is a bit iffy and you have to be careful. Eg they sell a lot ofSilvershiteSilverline tools.

B and q sure aint the place to go for tools. I have seen the price on flap discs and I laughed before. Screw fix is over priced IMO as well on a lot of stuff unless you have a £10 off voucher.
i have electrifix account i mainly deal with city electrics and electric base but u have to deal with the rep or the managers to negotiate your terms cos if i ever get a cheaper price elswhere they do it a bit cheaper to keep my buisness and will allways sell cheaper than electrifix or anyone else and deliver to job anytime i need iti find Screwfix ok, but then again i have an electricfix account with them. Not much between them and the other leccie suppliers i have accounts with unless there are sales on
b&q asking £18 for pack of two bosch sabre saw blades!!....£10 for five (same blades)at screwfix..thats £9 a blade at b&q £2 a blade at screwfix...and they are not usually the cheapest....I can't complain about their own (Performance) brand power tools, used one of their circular saws and a 9" grinder for many years without any problems.
