madest B & Q price yet seen

thats cos most people are half baked and wouldnt know good gear if it slapped them in the face ive only been in b and q 5 times in my life and that was 4 too many

I had one, and only one, good find in B and Q.

Some years ago in their clearance plumbing section I found in a dusty battered old box a Record chain wrench marked down from something like £35 to a fiver! Its been a godsend for taking abroad in my toolcase for larger fittings. (Not as good as a pair of stillies, but small, lightweight and handy). That's my one good story

I am just a one man micro business, and over the last year or two I am buying nearly every tool, fixing, paint, spare part ect off eBay, it works out the same cost but its delivered to my door, and I have only lost 3 items in the post, 2 were probably nicked after delivery. All were refunded. I just order what I need there and then from my tablet.

i'm now much more going down the mail order route than dealing with branches. tho small local supplyers can still be more completive and defiantly more use full

I don't use enough consumables to get a real discount, I keep my eyes peeled when I'm out and about and buy up special offers in bulk.

Tomorrow is spray paint day at lidl or aldi, 3 pound a pop I think.

at that price id just pay a painter to come and do it. probably cost less and more importantly it doesn't involve me painting

Kingfisher plc own B&Q & screwfix

screwfix was sold to kingfisher in 1999 by the same people that formed toolstation in 2003

I think (I could be wrong) they are even owned by the same parent company!!

That is also my understanding!

There is cheap or reasonable value stuff at B & Q you just need to know the price of stuff before you go especially when they have offers on. When they have offers on paint it really isn't that much point going anywhere else.

My wife used to work for ICI Paints, we could buy upto a 100ltrs a year @ 20p per litre when she first started, by the time she had left if was around a £1 a litre. That was 12yrs ago.

Paint has shot up in price dramatically in the last few yrs, that and rebranded* paint is the norm, you don't know what you are buying.




The likes of B&Q obviously don't make paint so buy it from the likes of ICI and rebrand it. Problem is you (we) don't know who makes it now she's out of the industry

I always look online for prices but if I want anything from Screwfix I always look up the number and write it on a bit of paper or put it in my phone before I go in. I can't read the catalogue at the counter without my glasses and never remember to take them with me

I just bought a cheap corded drill from b&q, on the grounds that it was rarely going to be used so not worth buying a good one. I drilled one 5mm hole in a piece of 5mm plate, then another, which took far longer and was really painfully slow. I looked at the drill and the chuck was bent! Unbelievable. Sp straight back to b&q for my money back and I didn't bother buying another.

Going to try some Tyrolit 1.0 mm discs from a local saw centre, they are just under £14 for 25.

Unfortunately screwfix aren't over here so its local merchants or B & Screw.

Occasionally they have decent deals on paint (Buy one get one free) but there ain't many places cheaper for a lot of the stuff they sell.

A lot of my welding consumables etc are from a local building merchants (quite reasonably priced) or a welding supply company.

But if they are out of stock its a week wait normally, or I tend to go to Fleabay.
