M300 feed lever rubber boot

Began to top up the oil this evening and decided the leak was too big to ignore. To be honest, I've done my best to ignore this since owning the lathe.

There's barely anything left of the rubber boot to see what it should look like. Any pointers to where I can source one at a sensible price? A parts diagram of the apron would be very handy too.

Its not an original part, its a 3D printed copy in a suitable material.

If there were an easy, cheap option I guess it would be all over the internet by now.
3D printing in the right material is a good way, ...apparently, but I'm not in to that. Last time I needed one, 7 years ago for my long bed m300, I turned a 2 part mould in aluminium and used silicone . Still working all this time later, no leaks.
So, in short, what I'm saying is that £18 might actually be a good deal.

I think it will likely leak without the integral flange. Despite being Scottish I decided better to fit the right part once than a few goes that may not work.

It probably will work. However, for the sake of an extra £9 why not just get the ready made one?

Spend the time you would have to modify/make it fit on something more productive.

In answer to my own question, yes, but you have to hold the shaft with mole grips/water pump pliers which is something I dislike doing. Inevitably ends up with marking the shaft.

Yes, it unscrews. The rod is cross drilled. Put something through to stop it turning as you undo the knob by hand.

You are quite right, I didn't see the cross drilling until after I had the thing apart

As a quick experiment I tried making a temporary rubber boot from an old inner tube. Probably butyl rubber and not oil resistant. Works fine though! Nitrile rubber would be a good choice. I may see if I can get a small offcut.

I just bit the bullet and bought a new one from Harrison, wasnt particularly cheap for a rubber bellows but wasn't stupidly expensive, and it just worked without faffing about
