I e-mailed Tecarc yesterday, with this question: -
I want to buy a new MIG welder, which will be used a fair bit for car restoration, as well as other general welding. I will only need something up to around 180 Amps. You have the Portamig, Tecarc and Oxford welders, which appeal to me because of their longetivity over the inverter types but I am not really sure what the fundamental differences are between each of the makes. For example the Portamig 186s, the Migmaker 180-I and the Tecarc Prof MIG 181 all appear to be very similar in performance. Are there any major differences between the three? Thanks, Glen.
They responded very quickly with this: -
Hi Glen
These are all very similar models, its down to your personal preference really, I am sure you will be delighted whichever one you go for.
I can't see why they produce three essentially very similar machines. The only major difference I can see is that the Oxford models have the spool under the top cover.
