I am about to buy a new MIG for general welding but also a fair bit of car restoration. I have got by (somehow!) using gasless MIGs in the past but I want a decent gas one now. Still undecided on whether to go for a transformer, or inverter type, as portability is not an essential requirement but could be handy occasionally.
Having just used basic Clarke or SIP MIGs in the past, I am wondering what minimum AMP figure I should look at for welding car bodywork.
I have the following shortlist at the moment:-
Tecarc C181 minimum 20 AMPS.
Parweld XTM 201i/Di minimum 30 AMPS.
Jasic Pro 200 minimum 10 or 30 AMPS (doesn't seem to be clear, I think 10 might be for MMA).
Oxford 180-1 Migmaker minimum 20 AMPS.
Portamig 165/186s minimum 15 AMPS.
The Portamig goes the lowest and I know of a guy on one of the car forums who produces some excellent welds with it.
Any advice, and any other welder suggestions, would be much appreciated.
