Looking for some help with full-rise scissor lift dimensions

Hi folks,

I've been a bit of a long-time lurker on this forum, but never joined.

I am looking for a bit of help. I am coming to the end of my Mechanical Engineering degree. I have based my final project on comparing a mid-rise (single scissor) vehicle lift to a full-rise (double scissor) lift for performance and safety optimisation.

As part of this I will need to carry out a Finite element analysis of both designs in Ansys. Here is where my issue lies. I own a mid-rise (single) scissor lift, so I can take the dimensions of the structural members and bolt sizes, but I am unable to do this for the full-height scissor lift. I have contacted various suppliers, but none are willing to give me the dimensions.

If anyone has a 3 tonne full-rise (double) scissor lift that would be willing to take some rough measurements for me it would be very much appreciated, as I am drawing a blank at how else to obtain them at the moment.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!!

You don't need a real product to model.

Choose a lift height amd a load then design a lift for each.

Your materials sizes should be what is commercially available.

Thanks for both of your replies. I hadn't thought about hire firms.

Dave, that's a fair point, although I would like to analyse the 2 lifts commercially available first if possible. Then I would be able to design two separate lifts in ansys and compare them to see if there are any cost savings to be made in the design or potential safety improvements.

take ur time and look for a used one....but u have to get lucky.....
personally, It's quite cheap to buy a two post lift that runs on 240v

Fairly sure we have a couple of members with full rise. I've got a mid sadly so not much use to you. I'd be fairly willing to bet it's just the same again, just another "layer"

Go around the local garages with biscuits aplenty and a tape measure. Is there a car or automobile student society in your seat of learning? A member thereof might have one or know a local place that does.

Just an observation, but did you not evaluate the practical feasibility of your project before delivering your brief ?

We have a Bradbury one at work. I would struggle for time at the moment, but if you are stuck i could make some time to measure things over the next week or 2.

You say you are in Scotland? Where abouts? You might not be too far away.....

Search for product data sheets or scaled drawings and deduct from there. Certainly most manufacturers will have pdf datsheets on the interwebs for bolting down etc.

Eg first Google hit on my phone. https://automotechservices.co.uk/products/as-7135-3-5t-full-rise-scissor-lift/

Side view drawing with dimensions. Copy and scale in autocad with the stated dims and from there covert and you will have your bolts diameters etc.

You should try this yourself first. If you really can't do it let me know and I'll do it tomorrow if you are stuck.

Which is exactly what you should be doing in School.

Not asking the "internet" to do your homework for you.

Have you asked any of the AI programs ?

go on youtube is my advice best way to learn build it out of free wood that you can easily get from anywhere

also look for wood scissor lift

If I am unable to obtain the few dimensions that I need, I will just alter my plan slightly.

I also use Youtube extensively to learn. There are some awful channels out there but some truly amazing ones as well. Inculding our very own @doubleboost of course

oh i can post the videos up as they are there but so are dimensions to build them as well

whilst building them in wood you get alot of experience than just designing them

For the purposes of your design exercise you do not need a real product.

Demonstrate your design skills by creating a simple single stage design.
Then scale to the two stage design and do your analysis to show where inprovements could be made.
