somebody, who shall remain nameless, said that bottle of red wine will be fine wedged in the corner of the wifes car boot. By the time we got home it wasn't fine and there was wine sloshing round the boot

I stood in the rain and mopped out all of the loose wine and hosed down all the removable bits of carpet, trim, padding etc. but this wasn't enough to stop it smelling.

I am satisfied there are no more puddles of wine and am hoping the smell will dissipate but if anyone knows a way to hurry up the process I think it would help

bicarb will soak up the smell, but at the risk of making it a worse mess to clear up. It will also neutralise the acetic acid cause when the ethanal oxidises.
an other option is to invent a time machine........

I once took a car in PX that had had milk spilled in it, it was vile!

Plenty of water with a little soap, particually for milk - I have done this! Rinse it out, a few times if needed, before it goes off. A bucket full or a hose would not be a bad idea. Drying it out may not be quick but it is a much simpler problem. I imagine a wet vacuume would be ideal to get most of it out, I didnt have one so I used old towels and clothes to soak up as much as possible.

I had a forklift (a Moffett, actually) driver doing some work for me recently and he went way above and beyond for us so I bought him a case of Guinness as a thank-you. He put it in his cab but shortly after one of the cans exploded and went all over him and all over the cab, his sleeper bunk, everywhere.

But what did you do with the car?

The enzyme based pet odour removers are good for getting rid of all sorts of smells (diesel etc.). Not sure if they’ll work on red wine, but worth a try IMHO.

(When I was a kid, we used to sell milk from the farm & deliver it to a few people. We spilled some in the van once and it stank for years afterwards.)

I was working on a desert crew in Libya, middle of the Sahara desert, middle of summer and my quarters were chosen to carry the home made beer apparatus as we moved camp. This stuff is FOUL. Looks like vomit, stinks like vomit and tastes like vomit (to be fair, after a couple of pints it gets better).

Anyhoo, in the ridiculous midday heat as it bounced its way 100 klicks further into nowhere, the makeshift kegs exploded, showering the inside of the trailer with their payload of foul smelling puke.

Standing outside in that heat is similar to when you open a hot oven door, the slightest breeze wafts hot, dry, desiccating air and it's unrelenting. Inside a sealed unit without AC is literally like being inside an oven. My entire world had been coated with sticky, stinky goo and it had baked itself on.

So you could do what we did.

Burn it.

Pour a bottle of white wine in the boot, I guarantee it will work.
Might be just for little stains though..

I would leave it. There are far worse smells than red wine.
Might take some explaining if pulled by the old bill though.

I'd definitely give that a try, the Autosmart products I have used (G101, Tardis and another I've forgotten) are excellent.

It was pretty bad, it used to make me retch.
Fortunately I didn't have to keep it long, the bloke who bought it never mentioned it and I kept schtum.

.Wife was trading her car in for a new one, few days before she took our male cat to the vet for annual vaccination. At that time we didn't have a cat carrier because he was content to sit on the passenger seat. Except for this day when he decided to have a pi55. can't imagine how bad that car smelt sitting on a car lot - in June.
