On a run it creeps upto 52-53, at a steady 70.
Around town it's in the high 40s, my long term average over 2000 miles is 50mpg

Going to hang some magic baubles in the tank for a 6% improvement

Thats cool, I've been looking at either a gt tdi or a gtd to replace the xfs, purely for the 50mpg potential, but sounds like that 1.5 tsi would do everything i want and potentially be even cheaper to run. The 150 r-lines look very appealing

No, that's caused by the touchscreen to the left, this one is just a display. Although I like it on radar mode, shows the cars around you so even less need to look where I'm going

No, but I've pulled several of my engines apart after other issues, run on supermarket fuel mostly and each one has been "as clean as whistle in the combustion chamber and on the valves".

Now I've pulled older engines bought from breakers apart, thinking of Triumph Dolomite and Spitfire engines, and found all sorts of crap on the valves and pistons - I attribute that to worn out engine, worn out oil seals, in-frequent oil changes with crap oil in old cars people were running into the ground.

Modernish cars that are maintained with decent oil run nice and clean.

Modern fuel injection meters the fuel out so much better than a carburetor - it just does!

The proof for me that the magic baubles don't work is that they haven't bought out the product and assassinated the inventor yet. Unless this is just a smokescreen to hide that they covered up a better version.

Its a bit like the claims for lead replacement pellets that were dangled in petrol tanks and the in line gadgets, lots of these were were available when unleaded fuel first came in, tests were run by a mag on a about five of these products and they found the "increase" in lead content to be virtually non existent but enough to cicumnavigate trade descriptions.

The belief was that car sickness was caused by static, the rubber (insulator) grounded the car, removed the static and stopped the car sickness

Oh go on. Please explain how a rubber insulator could act as a conductor I never did understand that bit. Perhaps it was impregnated with some left over magic lead from the tank inserts.
