Youngest son was a tree monkey in London for years, they had to pay to get rid of logs, someone willing to pay was manna from heaven! Even now the allotment site he’s on gets regular wood chip deliveries FOC as it saves the guys a tip charge.

Not really worth stealing when its hard to give away fresh logs. My buddy has to pay to tip logs quite often.

I suggest if you have a burner and adequate space to let it dry, find a local arborist. When we know somone is taking it, we will normally saw it to sensible firewood sizes. If you split then let it season over summer, you have free wood for winter, particually if its ash, other species may take a bit longer. I dont burn myself but I'd likely pile it up around a fire pit to get fresh split stuff ready quicker.

We just got a load of ash and other stuff after I spent the afternoon chopping down a few gone wild trees in my mates garden, filled the back of his T25 pickup that's some of winter 2026 sorted.

I should add if anyone is in the Croydon or south London area, I can likely arrange some cut logs of your choice of species when we get something suitable.
