I prefer oxy torch in this case, pre-heat extra long, and watch the red area stretch, and relax the tension, then hit theI had a scrap car I had to get rid of in a hurry as the lorry was booked and all.
I wanted the Sportline Control arms from the w124 coupe so I sat in the engine bay and cut the coil springs with my plasma
I lived to tell the tale. There is only a small witness mark in the tarmac too.
My dad had a spring compressor snap doing xjs springs. It (the spring) hit him in the head and knocked him over backwards, then continued up to hit the roof of the unit. I wasn't there at the time but the guy who was told me he thought he was dead as he was not moving and pumping out blood from his head. Many moons ago I was after some XJ jag suspension for a car, scappy pulled a car out of the pile and put it on its roof for me. Got undoing the front lower spring platform bolts without the use of a spring compressor, the platform shot back sheering the remaining bolts and the spring whistled straight past my lugs, not so sure the spring landed in the same county.

Possibly a lot easier if you wound down the adjuster rings. It looks from here that the body is threaded all the way down .
Found that photo I may be a little mad but not totally.Possibly a lot easier if you wound down the adjuster rings. It looks from here that the body is threaded all the way down .

Pressed a 1/2 shaft out of a hub on a 1930s Hudson axle 35t it went off like a 45ACP the shaft hit the concrete floor (big divot in floor) took off cleared the Chevy fleet-master next to the press and out through the WS window after another bounce now that was scary.
I was at a shop where a woman was assembling some parts, they had a German made hi-pressure power supply running a bolt stretching device.Workmate & I were within 2' of a foot long / 4" diameter hydraulic filter that disintegrated at 2500psi. There was a bang and somehow the shrapnel missed us. Then there were a few miliseconds, seemed like minutes as the column of oil hung in the air...then gravity took over and splosh, everywhere. That was a testicles, spectacles, wallet and watch checking moment.
Turns out the original installer had fitted a low pressure, aluminium casing filter on the high pressure side. The part makers had incorrectly labelled it as high pressure.
