Nope apart from a bit of parasitic heat and the refrigerant separating they are silent and pretty efficient, I've seen and condemned some non ventilated ones but I guess they are now pretty old tech, ignition wise as long as it lights it has a heat source, I've seen some disasters from crap wiring from the 12v over the years, upto and including fires, the heating element at 12v is supposed to be a holding at in-between solution not a run it for ever solution.Yep - ancient things but robust & effective (think the ones the van is 1990-ish). I have 2 that I've tinkered with & upgraded from push-button to 12v Piezo ignition (much easier & parts were off non-working fridges picked up for a few quid).
So I have a spare as well (they aren't worth an awful lot to sell, so I might as well hang onto the 2nd one as backup - that said there's not much to go wrong except age and oxidisation).
