Lifting sling .. Only 1 use?

we had another 25 bundles delivered today, supervisor said she'll put them aside for me as they get through them.

What sort of quantities each?
I'm not really sure the cheapest way to post them. (No printer remember )

For a small parcel up to 2kg Royal Mail is £3, I should imagine you could get quite a few slings in a 2kg parcel. Anything over 2kg you're looking at Myhermes, etc which all require a printer.

There is also the option of collect+ who will print the labels at the drop off point for a small fee.

As for quantities, 5 slings would be ok for me but I would suggest you weigh them first to see if the postage will be reasonable.

This matter came up on site this week as the main contractor insists that lorries came in 'pre-slung'. I mentioned the above and the project manager heading the meeting said no, they still have to be on your lifting accessories register.

I don't know if that's company policy or loler regs, but I have always believed that the single-use sling rule was specifically to bypass the need for keeping them on the register due to the logistical difficulties.

Some equipment used in lifting is not covered by LOLER. Where this is the case, you would still have duties under PUWER to ensure the work equipment is safe and suitable, for example:
■ equipment whose principal function is not lifting, for example conveyor belts or the three-point linkage on a tractor;
■ items such as pallets, skips, ladles, one-trip slings attached to a load and similar containers, which are considered part of the load.

i got given a dumoy bag of them about 6 years ago from the big pipeline, i was speaking to a forman and he said "he has a lad spending (inserted naughty word hear!) all day with a stanly knife cutting slings so they cant be used again"

well says i, i will give them a good home.

Our previous lifting gear responsible person would condemn something, and if someone wanted to take it home he'd put it in their hands and say "right, go away, YOU scrap it, make sure we never see it again"

If you have the straps attached to the load and they remain in place you can avoid having anyone climbing on to the lorry to connect up a crane for lifting.
This is advantageous from a safety point of view.

Buying that sling on it's own retail will cost £10-20ish.
Buying thousands in bulk will be cheaper.

If you make them "single use" then you don't have any costs of keeping an inventory and getting them regularly inspected - all part of LOLER. (Lifting Operation and Lifting Equipment Regulations)

I would take any number that makes the postage sensible in the £5-10 range inc your packing / time.

No, the loose end of the sling gets tied to the edge of the bed so everything can be reached from ground level.

Actually,here you still have to climb up and attach it to the hook and make sure they're centered

One driver got knocked off, he keeps getting in the way as the FLT driver is lifting

Did just get 35 bundles of tube delivered yesterday with the purple ones so they're here, just got to wait

I'd have a handful of purple jobs.
