how can it be a waste when its melted down and re usedSilly silly silly, this thread has become too silly!
No-one enjoys a good laught more than I do.
Except my wife.
And her friends.
And perhaps some of their friends.
(and so on)
No worries COuntry Joe, I've no desire to attract any unwanted attention to the forum, I just get jarred off when waste of this sort happens, i.e. there's a buch of hairy-arsed blokes who like nothing better than sticking bits of metal together, and a sub-group withing that who seem to think that the world needs more wood-burning stoves, and there's ideal base material being sent to the scrappy every week and seemingly no way to get your mitts on any of it.
I'll see what, if anything. comes of my contact with the gas suppliers and if I get nowhere I'll try some of the end-of-life recyclers (can't call them scrap men these days, too common) and see if they're interested.

Oh, I see. I'd assumed they'd had a few mishaps, while chopping them about with a grinder, and had somehow become ultra-cautious.

He's not a Manufacturer he's an Artist
Hence the £££
So am I, a s***house artist
I go to one in northumberland. He gets stuff from any were he can. factorys etc. While trying to find a source of scrap I came across, one of the few, who were still willing to let one 'have a look'.
There were two or three large cylinders, poss 5' by 18" with a wall thickness of about 1/2", too big for me but would make fantastic stoves, given that the floor joists could stand it!!
Oh that there were more of such places.
http://www.recyclethis.co.uk/20120402/how-can-i-reuse-or-recycle-empty-bottled-gaspropane-cylinders said:Every Calor cylinder undergoes a full inspection and safety test at our specialist facility at least every 15 years – as well as being subject to inspection every time it is refilled. If any fault, safety issue, or damage is identified during these inspections, the cylinder undergoes a full refurbishment process, at the end of which it is as good as new and is put back into circulation. In a very small number of cases the cylinder is beyond repair and is deemed unsafe under the health and safety legislation within which we are governed. In these cases the cylinder is sent for recycling and the metal reused. As you can see this is a fully ‘green’ process with no metal going to waste.
We do not make old cylinders available for conversion in the manner you suggest, as you can see from the above that we either refurbish or recycle ALL of our cylinders. Making cylinders available in the way you suggest would give the message that it is ok/safe to convert cylinders. As you will have seen from our earlier posts, we are extremely concerned about this as we have seen serious injury and even death as a result of people converting LPG cylinders and other such storage vessels. We dont want to do anything which could be seen as encouraging or endorsing this highly dangerous practice.
