Lidl Plasmas Coming Soon!

Must say, as much as I do like a new toy, I honestly can't think of any need for one either.

And I am thinking that I can't remember at any time in those two years saying "if only I had that Lidl plasma cutter I could have..."

1st store 8.05 this morning..i am 3rd one in store and the only 2 they had get lifted into trolleys by the 2 guys in front...second store at 9am..the had 6 delivered and all 6 sold!! . My hunt is now over and will never fall for the trap ever again, too many fish in the pond all fighting over the same food and my time is worth more than a £150 plasma cutter.

Next time go in the last hour before closing the night before. Makes sense that they put the stuff out ready for the morning when it's quiet at the end of the day. Worked for me.

I decided after contemplation to look upon my failure as karmic validation that I actually don't need one, so it's actually a 150 quid saved.
(When I clear up after a moderate amount of disc cutting and grinding, and see just how many particles and grinding dust has gone everywhere then I think that might be the unhealthiest aspect.... so one of the reasons for thinking "plasma cutter" was to reduce the abrasive & metal dust & racket.... but I suppose there are valid alternatives?
Reciprocating Saw? Air Nibbler maybe for thin sheet, and accept abrasive wheel for thicker stuff (& hope it's not raining so I can do it outside).

Tried that with aldi once over something else and the staff laughed at me..cant be sold before date on catalogue they said.

roofman . screwfix put there adverts up the night before at my local branch. i had to go in last thing. they had to sell me thing at advertised price for the following day

I managed to pick one of these up this morning but I have not managed to look at it yet.

What consumables are needed for these, and where is a good place to get them from?

I am looking forward to giving it a go.

As others have said, speed and cutting down grinding dust is main reason for getting it, but also getting into awkward places (I need to do the dumb irons and front outriggers on the land rover) and cutting on a radius etc.

Hopefully it won't disappoint!

When you work out how to use it properly, learn to speed up/slow down as required for material thickness etc, you will wonder why you bothered wearing so many slitting discs out.
I use my small plasma to save my and the neighbours ears - easy, quiet, quick, neat cuts. I do make sure I have decent ventilation - you do get fumes from the cutting.

I like the distressed look you’ve gone for, but it should cut cleaner and smoother than that!

Do you mean the big jobs you bolt down and pull a handle, or something like a hand-held air or electric shears?

(I have my 10-bar IR30 Compressor now, so that should have the capacity for an air shears maybe - then these would be used to cut out sections on a vehicle as well as cutting new steel sheet indoors? Also why I thought an ar Nibbler might be handy for those awkward spots cutting out panel sections on the van)

@Dogruffracing would you be interested in one of the first version parkside plasmas as you have missed out on this version? I'm never able to get hold of anything myself as the nearest Lidl is hours away but my mother is always up for a bargain and joins the hordes of blokes rummaging for tools and machinery when requested. She tells me that she's managed to pick up one of the new plasmas for me so you if you want my 1st version one you can have it for what I paid for it, it has been used but I'll add some torch consumables to the deal. PM me if you want.
