Isn't this just a bog standard pilot arc torch? Looks like the earth is going to the tip via the extra ground wire and no extra 'circuitry' involved.

This can be done to the original torch but has not been a 'recommended' way of getting a pilot arc without damage to the unit.....

Been using mine quite a bit recently cutting some 6/8 and 10mm steel sheet, the thicker the steel the slower you have to travel, and rust really shags the nozzles out pdq.
Only broke one shroud so far, the cheap ones from ebay are about 1 to 2mm to short allowing the o-ring to blow out the back of the shroud making a squealing noise, so a few o-rings to support the sealing o-ring seems to be working just fine.
I am having to use a straight edge to keep a straightish cut, as free hand it looks like a rat has been feeding on it!

That's basically price of internal compressor one but with the pilot torch and the original no compressor unit which sold for around €80.. Charging you €70 for one of these ~€30 pilot arc torches you can get from ebay..

Got work mates in Germany and toying with the idea of asking to get one of these pilot arc lines for me.
Been using the Lidl internal compressor version bought recently, seems to work well.
Know b*gger all about this but googled the advantages of pilot arc, main one for me seems to be ability to cut through unprepped material.

But I've also read better cuts and consumables life? - is that true?
Also does it use different consumables to the conventional toroch?

Possibly different consumables, I'm guessing the shorter ones.

As for cuts better probably not until the arc starts to flow through the work and not just the torch return so initial cut might be messy.

For consumable life it might be slightly less as the current would be going from it and back to it till it can go via the earth. Ultimately its worth it for the hassle it saves getting a good start and consumables are cheap anyway.

Usually it's under £15 and they don't clobber you with vat, most of my Chinese purchases say £14 for the value lol

There out today at lidl I've had 2 plasma cutters today
at Lidls 7:45 AM Can't find one asked may have not coming he said I'll try down the road if we Have not got one they Won't the said
down the road had 2 their only a 30 1st one would not work testing that at about 3 o'clock this afternoon went
straight back the other one still there well surprised so I got that and exchanged it
it can't even cut halfway through 5mm mild steel on full power will be taking it back tomorrow
if you can find one my advice don't bother

Had one on the shelf for about 10months then a mate wanted to build a bumper.

So fired up the plasma (lidl 30amp)
Cut super clean through 3mm. And wound it right up for 12mm which it did do but wasn't clean. But sure beat blowing through discs.

Only thing we couldn't do was run the plasma flat out and the compressor at the same time due to only on a b16 breaker.

I have the 40A version and since i put a 32A socket on it the thing goes through 12mm like butter...For a low end cutter i am most impressed

I do have a 32 amp socket but running from a 13 amp can't see making much difference with this

Make sure the torch consumables are tight as a couple of people earlier in this topic found the insulator and tip not tight enough.

That reads as a pilot arc torch, have you got a pic?
bought a pilot arc torch from Lidl Germany for my Lidl Parkside 40amp performance integrated compressor version , have used it on a few tests bits so far and the torch does not seem to have the punch as the non pilot arc, but was challenging it on painted and rusted metal - which is the point.

@Ruffian I'm using similar specs but by f**k I needed some gloves on!
