I was just discussing this in the Welders Arms.I run our company metrology lab and would concur that within their resolution the average Cheapnese ones are as accurate as a £150 Mitutoyo.
They will probably, however, feel as rough as a coalminer's nostril.
I've taught myself how to read imperial micrometers tonight, with the aid of the 'tube.
Carl Zeiss micrometers, down to 4 decimal places imperial, I made mistakes reading them initially, it was my Lidl verniers which picked up my errors, along with an online imperial / metric converter.
For sure the Lidl verniers are not quite as accurate, but they're accurate to +-.0005, whereas a Mic is accurate to 0.0001.
