A digression.. many years ago I hitch hiked across the Sahara. In muslim Algeria and Niger, the men are religious and dress very modestly in long cloaks, so they must squat to p in the desert.
Upon arriving in 'black' Africa, the culture is very different, nobody wears much...and the jolly ladies, when they need a tinkle, just pull up the front of their skirts, and direct an accurate and powerful stream from a standing position, using scurrying mice and rats for target practice!

Yes, it was possible on the Hoggar route in 1983, I wouldn't reccomend it now, pretty much a jihadist war zone sadly. The desert is cosmically beautiful and also extremely dangerous.. a bit like the sea in many ways..

I totally agree, it were from the BBC after all.
It's shocking that they along with the other main media channels only push the same narrow minded narrative on this whole covid situation. They certainly won't speak to the other scientists & doctors that you'll find on YouTube who have data etc that provide another point of view.

I seem to recall my daughter on about this a few weeks ago. Apparently, or so she'd read, putting the lid down resulted in a 'sideways spray' that was just as bad.
I suggested that if there really was that many droplets flying around that they could be propelled vertically and then ricochet horizontally, then surely the lid itself (plus the seat, one presumes) would have to get wet in the process. Didn't take more than a quick wipe with some paper after a flush to prove the khazi cover stayed bone dry
- because of the poor sewage installation here at Wedg1e Villas, I have a full 2-gallon cistern-full dropping like Victoria Falls in order to get some momentum behind the, er, deposits. If anything was to get wet, it'd be the solid oak throne

I appreciate that traditionally, our oriental counterparts are vertically challenged compared to us, but 36" as an average for the race? I think not.

One thing not realised may be that chinese loo's are likely to be a bit more communal than cubicle, not quite what we're used to over here.
Closing the lid to flush may be more ideal and a good habit (as is checking for remnants), but not easy when there may not be a lid or brush as at some service stations or public loo's.
I suppose as the virus becomes less in the general population it's less of a problem. Hopefully sooner than later for us all

OEP 220 (oil extreme pressure 220) - hydraulic oil, IIRC. I was surprised to see they haven't changed the designation in over 45 years.
