Lending tools out

some people are just scumbags. you ask 'where did you get that?' and they say 'so-and-so lent it me and never asked for it back' as if that's a cool way to get things...

i will lend to people who either a) i know will do the right thing or b) have stuff that i borrow from time to time!

i put off buying a mixer until a recent job where i would need it for a long time as the guy i always borrowed a mixer from used to borrow stuff off me so it kind of made sense. i hate it when you've got loads of kit and other people have got nothing worth borrowing in return. it makes sense to 'share' tools, big stuff anyway, but it's a crying shame that not everyone takes the long view. thankfully i haven't got a brother in law who's into tools.

exactly!

i f**king hate that attitude. no-one enjoys having to ask for things back and it's good manners to not let things get to that point. people who REALLY don't like to ask for things back end up getting robbed by low-lifes.

I'm the same with lending stuff out, even in at the work. Too many people seem to think it's not theirs so it's no skin off their nose if it comes back completely goosed

One of the new guys in at work got a start as an apprentice fabricator yet refuses to buy any tools. How you can fabricate without so much as a square is beyond me

I have a special set I keep for 'loaners' it is all the rubbish I have accumulated over the yrs and this gets lent out, most of the time they either break it or it is not man enough for the job
This is a specific ploy as I no longer get asked because they all think I have a box full of crud, anyone that really needs to do a job not only gets the right tools but also the hand that wields them, much less aggro and cheaper in the long term.
