Its one of the annoying laws the blade is to be 4" or less and non locking, you must also have a good reason for carrying, connection to work etc. i would argue that the fact it is part of a multi tool and not a stand alone knife but i think the law may see it differently. not sure what the rules are down where you are but up here mien fuhrer must be obeyed.

quite likely, we get a lot of power outs here, bought quite a few (at least 5) of these little LED torches, xanlite and by god they're bright but as fragile as the day is long. if they drop or get hit with something the stop working, (usually battery connections). That's what I like about the Maglite, nothing to go wrong, agricultural engineering..... it just works..

They're cheap ones that break. The Lenser has a long waranty and is very durable. I'm a tad anal with not damaging the black paint on it though

We have a few mag lites lying around the house mainly in winter poerr is a bit iffy. But find the cheapo rechargable wander lights from aldi etc superb if the power goes off.

I have a gerber multi tool. Thought better than leatherman. But gave up carrying it, working africa as i used to travel hand luggage only.

I've got a lender torch, they realy are quite good.

As for the leatherman ive got a Stanley copy, I keep it in the car for all the things you need to do while on the go. For anything serious I use proper tools. Also have a mini tool kit with pliers, scanners etc buried in the spare wheel well which is mostly taken up by the battery

paint eh? Maglite, I gave up being concerned over the anodizing years ago, still surprisingly intact..

I have had the original for over 20 years, Has it serviced twice, snapped plier jaw and snapped blade, Both definitely total abuse and my fault, Using the pliers as a lever to remove a 6" nail and the blade again trying to do something it was never intended for, Both times returned under lifetime warranty and fixed free, usually they replace all the blades etc as a matter of course, I though they had just sent a replacement new tool, but recognised some marking on the casing that i had caused. I'v just given it a second life with my grandson who is a venture scout, Very disappointed the lifetime warranty no longer applies.

hahaha, It may not be paint. I can't remember what it is. It may actually be black anodize but it damages if you drop it, it certainly doesn't chip, actually, it's definitely anodized.

The LED lenser torches are top class Ive had 3 h7 head torches first one I lost while crawling along inside a 3 foot concrete pipe trying to clear a blockage. Last one got stuck on low power mode, I'd had it for about 3 years and it was used a lot but they have a lifetime warranty so I sent it back directly to led lenser and within 2 days had a brand new updated model, no charge.
It's like having a lighthouse on your head!

It's the same in Scotland although covered under different legislation - Section 49 (1) of the Criminal Law (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 1995.

I've had an original Leatherman since they were first imported into the UK. My daughter is a police officer and carries one but they are only allowed the Juice model, which has a non locking blade. When I am going to a western action competition I carry my 10in bladed custom Arkansas toothpick.

Skeletool CX was my choice and ive had it a good number of years now.
It's a great tool to have when you don't have a tool on you but obviously isn't a Replacement for those tools as seperate items.
For me the knife blade gets the most use and the steel is excellent it stays sharp for many many uses. The cutters are not great IMO and every leather man ive had (3 in total) they mark and blunten quick once a few stainless mig wires have been snipped. I went for the skeletool because I'm not one for nail files and cork screws and ive found that the few tools on that particular one are ones Id use when I need it. I like the idea that some of them have replaceable jaws. Ive not owned one like that but that would be a good thing if the replacements are sensibly priced???? Gerbers IMO are nasty things compared to leather man, just my opinion but they don't seem as well finished . I think it's a great part time get you out the s##t tool and used this way will last forever. As a full time depended on tool I think they will deteriate in ability. Cheap ones are a waste of time. They blunt in no time.

like the maglites, never heard of LED LENSER? are they better? can't really fault my Maglite, had it years, been great...

id say yep, have both but i use the led lenser any time, they are about the best of the best in lamps, they arent cheap, but if you dont loose it it ill last a lifetime.
i have the x21 iirc it is, now its a light...., it has its own carry case.

I had the identical version given to me by dad until an ex nicked it, along with an engraved zippo I have the leather man wave now, got it a few years ago when they were about 120 quid. Cracking knife, I generally have it with me. I also have a crkt m16 and an m14 rescue knife that lived in the arm pocket of my dry suit, now lives in the car

Robotstar5, your Leatherman is the same model as i had, originally bought "hidden" in a list of tools that I was ordering from Cromwells for work, Cromwells had not heard of them, but after i gave details they were good enough to get one for me, When i broke mine,to me it was a tool. and if needs must, give it a go.
P.S. I also ordered the extra leather case with the adapter to convert the plier jaws into a hex screwdriver and bits to go with it, Love ordering tools,even more so when they are are free issue.

Unfortunately this is no longer strictly true due to several pieces of case law, I used to carry a swiss army knife until I was advised by two different people to stop as it wasn't worth the hassle it could cause me and having spent many hours reading up on it I rarely cary one.

The advise given to me was, leave it in the house until needed, if you must carry one keep it in the vehicle tool kit out of sight and not in the glove box readily to hand but this advice was offered with no guarantee as at the end of the day its the CPS, your solicitor and your barrister who will present a case and the judge to decide not any one else.

Its freely available on line but as I see it its illegal as its a locking blade, this has come up in case law as a customer could buy it thinking it was legal to carry home when it may not be.
