Learning Tig welding

Is there anyone here that can help me and my wife to learn how to tig weld? I have looked at various colleges etc but they don’t seem to match what we’re looking for.
We are looking to learn tig basics before purchasing a machine.
Is there anyone in the 3 counties area that can help?
We are prepared to pay for your help and training.

I can't help - but interested in the answer as I'm in a similar position...

I suggest you ask your local tech college, some do night classes.

As for both you and your wife learning together, if you dont want disharmony buy two machines.

Alternatively buy machine, set it up with someone who can weld, and have a go. Its not as difficult as some think, to make a pool and add filler. The rest is practice with a bit of coaching!

all good if you own a machine, but the OP has stated they wish to learn before committing to purchase

Buy a welder, buy PPE, get material to practice on, watch YouTube, ask questions and practice practice practice

Ah learn without kit, tricky as it seems not much in the way of welding courses around. Paying someone to goto their place and learn is going to take more than an afternoon, ideally you go somewhere, learn a bit then go home and practice.

This is great advice,

You can be practicing badly without having someone with experience to help with any pointers,

The practice need to be valuable though, there is no point spending hours getting nowhere, seek advice make improvements to position or machine and see if they have helped.

Spend a few evenings scanning these pages .ask a few questions and get up to speed with the basic jargon and make notes . buy a welder . Again there is enough info on here to guide you without someone trying to "tuck you up" with a load of expensive tat. Rob your wifes knitting box for a knitting needle and sit in front of the TV practicing the art of feeding it through your fingers . then just practice until you become proficient or you can't get into the garage for the pile of test pieces.
