But its all smoke and mirrors.....its like saying as a driver you are more at risk as having an accident than if you are a passenger.
Yes thats true.
Its the same with dying......every year you go without dying.....the more chance you will die. Fact.
Unless you are a cat and have nine lives
It is basically discrimination.
imagine going for a job interview, and being told because youre from a certain dodgy estate you are statistically more likely to steal from us?
because you are female you are likely to get pregnant and bgger off, costing us time and money finding a replacement?
you are old and more likely to die soon, need replacing like above?
(I bet the insurance companies have race related stastics, imagine that question)
house, life and health insurance, here anyway, vary way less in comparison.but because car insurance is compulsory we accept it
If an employer had quantifiable statistics, would it be ok?colnerov said:Hi, Not necessarily, Insurance companies have quantifiable statistics they could show but an employer couldn't, at best they could make an educated guess.
In the case of a female employee getting pregnant, the cheaper option would be if she went, if she stayed that would be even more expensive. Finding someone to do her job while she's on maternity leave. They can't say anything about it because of bad PR. I can remember some years ago someone voiced the opinion that he didn't know why any company would employ a woman of child bearing age and he got pilloried. I digress.

No it would still be lies, damn lies and statistics....If an employer had quantifiable statistics, would it be ok?
Its all about probability. If the average number of occupants in a car/mile driven is less than two, quite clearly, you will be. I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of journies are done with just a driver so that will be the case.
No it's not!
-You can only die once
-everyone will definitely die at some point
The same can't be said for incidents, you can have more than one or may never have one at all! They're fundamentally very different.
Yup!Its all about probability.
Its all about probability.
Probably both. Are you arguing for or against statistics & probability?
Cos of all the accidents that happen when it's being repaired:Why??
Against....i can make figures say anything you want...Are you arguing for or against statistics & probability?
Damn & double damn!! I was born on the thirtieth which was bang on the full moon. That might explain the howling though.....
At a guess things like shift working (leaving work at odd hours while tired), high stress jobs that mean you might be less likely to concentrate - I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why a certain occupation might affect your premium. Again I would imagine it would all be statistically driven given the amount of data that insurance companies gather.I know that some occupations effect cost of premiums. With the exception of company reps who are on the road a lot, (and maybe one two other job types), I am not sure why.
Doctors/vets as they are likely to be called out in the night.I know that some occupations effect cost of premiums. With the exception of company reps who are on the road a lot, (and maybe one two other job types), I am not sure why.
