But it isnt when you look at the condition and price of some of these.
Ive Probably spent more on tooling and chucks than I have on the lathes and mill combined expensive hobby.

On a plus note I've got all the jaws out of the old chuck I just need to find some new screws

Sit down before you ask the price, that £60 chuck will look like a good deal.

The alternative is to make your own screws - remembering they're a square thread, left hand, need a socket broached for the key, and need to be hardened (And so ground to finish, including the threads, unless you have access to a vacuum/inert-gas furnace) - cut out beer for a month to have a usable lathe a month sooner?

The ones I made for the Pratt and Burnerd 4 inch 4 jaw I have were just 1/2" whit and right hand thread
I was able to buy them for a couple of quid and mod them in a bit of an evening and I know nothing about machining.
I now just use an allen key to adjust

No idea what's in JIg's chuck and still waiting for him to post a picture but it was a simple job (as I was able to do it.)

Sixty notes ain't dear considering the weight of the things. But appreciate everything is dear with out the funding. As a member suggested can you not post up a thread asking if it could be collected .then pass it down from member to member.

I got new screws cost me £7 for 6 of them all I had to do was put them in the lathe and cut the groove in them that the jaws attach to its all fixed now thanks to whoever said to modify some grub screws they were 1/2" whit

It does the job it might have some grease or something off my fingers on the lens they looked okay when I had taken them

Are the shoulders in the grub screw recess meant to taper like that?
Can't see from the photo of the broken one.
The ones I made had a square recess to seat on the jaws.

No there not but it's all I could do with the tools I had they work perfectly fine though

Well done on making new screws but as soon as you have that machine working you need to re-make them and cut the groove with square sides. If you use those ones you made any amount you'll trash the chuck body in very short order.

It'll make a nice small project for you.

Why would they do that on another note my mam has bought me a new set of tools for it like linked a few posts back as a early Christmas present so ill have the right tools to re cut them square
