Would it be worth getting a top slide for it as well as I know of one going for 40£Yes a little is acceptable. 4mm is not so good

Get what you can if funds allow. I grab every thing I can for my machinery if parts come up for sale.Would it be worth getting a top slide for it as well as I know of one going for 40£
They don't really allow but if its worth it I'll make them allowGet what you can if funds allow. I grab every thing I can for my machinery if parts come up for sale.
Yes definitely true. As we know with second hand parts that are pushing age there will indeed be some wearwith any second hand distance purchase its a gamble. could be better could be worse than your current part.
That bundle of smart and brown stuff we spoke bout arrived the other day. the one part i bought for (apron handle) had been abused with a welder. someone messed up drilling it out and instead of silver soldering hit it with mig. the apron gears may come in useful though as well as the castings.Yes definitely true. Typical. Any chance of repairing it.That bundle of smart and brown stuff we spoke bout arrived the other day. the one part i bought for (apron handle) had been abused with a welder. someone messed up drilling it out and instead of silver soldering hit it with mig. the apron gears may come in useful though as well as the castings.

Agree with @spencer 427 for comparison my M has about 5 thousand play at the very end of the range and about 15 thousand in the middle of its range.Yes a little is acceptable. 4mm is not so good
Yeah that's why I had to make that block as it didn't have one I've asked for some dimensions off him to make sure it will work with my tool postAgree with @spencer 427 for comparison my M has about 5 thousand play at the very end of the range and about 15 thousand in the middle of its range.
And yes @Jlg a top slide is a must, I did wonder why you had substituted yours for the riser block, I had not noticed that your lathe had not got one.
If the condition of the parts is in good order then it's not out the way price wise giving the weight of them. If it's destroying tips every time then somthing is a miss somewhereI need you guys opinion I have just been offered a top slide lead screw with nut a knock of finger and a complete head stock with adjustment left in the bearings for a £140 posted what do you think
The lead screw and nut are in excellent condition he says and wants £50 for it the top slide is in good condition just needs painting and he wants £50 for it and the head stock has adjustment left in the bearings and he wants £40 for it and he will throw in the fingerIf the condition of the parts is in good order then it's not out the way price wise giving the weight of them. I actually think I got a bad box of tips as I put the original ones in and I have had no problems since but when I was taking one of the ones that broke out it jus fell to pieces when I removed the screwIf the condition of the parts is in good order then it's not out the way price wise giving the weight of them. I would. Spares are very handy to have regardless if you use them or not. At least you will have them if needed.I know I want the top slide and the lead screw nut so I was wondering whether I should just spend the extra £40 to get the head stock for spare parts of not
