Latest Transit van without a wet belt?.

I suppose at this point then I'm looking at a van or pickup that is very reliable, ideally cam chain drive engine.

Add Blue wise it wasn't an issue with filling just the fact it's something else to go wrong, clogged up injectors etc. The whole system seemed an afterthought to get cars through Euro 6 onwards emissions testing.

Suprised the HiLux isn't as reliable as I thought it would be, the one I used was in daily use towing a 1.5 ton trailer at a driver training school so I would have thought if they were that bad they would have chosen something else.

Sodds law whatever I buy it will have some form of issue.

Just don't want to have to go through this again, all our money tied up into a lemon..

It's all relative.
An unreliable* Toyota will still be way better than a wet belt Ford!

* I really don't think Toyota make an unreliable vehicle to be honest, yes the new euro 6 etc HiLux's aren't as bomb proof as the old 90's ones but then nothing is due to all the emissions meddling.

Mate of fine is just buying a Peugeot Boxer LWB. 2020 on 60k seems good value at £9000. What are they like? What engines? It's a 2.2 140bhp.

Not sure why the first port of call would be to change the oil. When i get faults for stuck solenoids in gearboxes my first port of call is to pull the mechatronic/valvebody and inspect the solenoids. Usually find debris or clogged/damaged filter screens in them, or the coil failed.

The engines aren't bad*. The rest of the van is absolute dogshit. Awful cheap nasty interiors, terrible build quality, uncomfortable driving position and weird clutch pedal that kills your ankle.

It's a rebranded Fiat Ducato, and the Italians are terrible at building vehicles.

*But also not great. Expect dead injectors that seize in the head.

No need, your first port of call told enough.

While i never said the solenoid would be the only issue, that would be where i'd look first. People think changing gearbox oil will somehow magically cure lots of problems in autos. It generally doesn't.

We've currently got 3 at the dealer awaiting new engines, all with less than 80k.
Two have dropped valves, one the timing belt has failed.

And we've also got a slightly older one sat in the yard waiting on a new engine being delivered, as it's got a terminal knock.

I've had quite a few with failed injectors, one with a snapped belt and one with a blown headgasket due to overheating. Surprised about the dropped valves, that's an odd fault.

Thankfully i don't deal with that many of them as i mostly do Transits, Sprinters and Transporters.

If i could, i'd only work on Sprinters.

If you have the time you really should read this thread, it's quite stunning how shxt the Ford design is and very impressive how @Keithmac fixed it.

Almost all dual clutch boxes are petty flawed in their own way. From cracking hydraulic accumulators, filter screens coming loose, pressure sensors leaking into the electronics, etc. They've been around since the early 2000s, you'd think they'd be more refined by now.

But then again, we're still dealing with seized injectors on a daily basis so no surprise simple issues aren't fixed at manufacture..

(I'm glad my one automatic is a proper torque converter slushbox and not a DSG.)

Most of my customers changed over from Merc Sprinters to Euro5 2.0 VW Crafters - they had a good run and high mileage with these - when regularly serviced some got to 500k and beyond...

When these happy VW Crafter van owners bought into the later Euro6 Adblue offerings - it all just went wrong for them - NOX problems - difficult to diagnose O2 and long term airflow faults - permant limp mode with no real reason why...?

What would you buy for a 3.5ton van...?

Lots of people around me - just going cheap now - Saic Maxus - cheap new sale price ticket - long warranty....

So if we go for a HiLux I'll be another £600 into a Ghost immobiliser as well then and a Stoplock wheel cover.

Seems you can't own anything nice nowadays without some scum on hand to steal it..

Probably cheaper to get full recovery cover for the caravan and just use what we have.

Would be a complete disaster if the Kuga went t1ts up fully loaded with family and dogs etc.

It's not missed a beat in last 40,000 miles after the gearbox conversion.
