How longs it been since you last picked up the torch?I hope so. I've got a project waiting to get welded with about 10M of 3mm fillets!
Personally I don’t think the thumb wheel is necessaryA little while..... 2 years?
Going to get my hand back in by building a aluminium trolley for the TIG first. Then I can wheel it around.
I've also fitted a thumb switch to the Speedway as last time I was just stamping the pedal to max and getting on with it.
With the 20' torch it will be easier moving around the piece being built and not having to worry about a pedal.
Rest assured there will be pics and progress reports a plenty.
In fact I will go and start a project thread right now.
Ah like an up/down switch. It's not a wheel, just a on off thumb switch.
Hi.
This looks better I think...
I decided to oscillate the torch slightly and it has given me that concave rather than the convex (what I've been getting so far) weld. Again it's not pretty but I think the penetration is finally getting better.

Your current is ok now. Paul used 160 amps on 5mm plate. 120 on 3mm plate is good and 150 on 5 should be fine. Remember Paul does this day in day out and to my knowledge is probably the best tig welder on the forum so his current levels are gonna be set up to the speed he can bomb down a joint. I bet he’d have no problem doing that at 170-180Thanks Paul. I'm stumped as to where I'm going wrong...
I'll have another play later this morning. I'll set up the same as you with 160A etc and see how it turns out.

Oh and sorry to sound like a broken record but you have been made aware of where your going wrong on numerous occasions. Your throwing yourself in the deeper end.I'm stumped as to where I'm going wrong...
You could have used a bit of decent steel and dipping the tungsten and carrying on. Richard will have you writing lines on the blackboard at lunch time.Switched to a 2.4mm filler and it was terrible (first inch on the right).
Dipped the tungsten but couldn't be arsed to clean it up as I'll be switching to Alu in a minute.
Switched back to 1.2mm filler and you can see all the carp in the weld from the dirty metal and the contaminated tungsten.

I’m actually thinking this thread is a wind up.I wonder if travel speed and amount of filler is an issue?
