windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are still viable machinesWhy not either stick with you perfectly capable computer running Win10 (after all, Win7 is still perfectly useable and that was EOL'd ages ago) or install whatever version of Linux you want to try, you can run from a CD/DVD if you don't want to wipe all your stuff on the hard drive.
Looks tidy. My rigs running a 3700x. I'm assuming that's a similar CPU with half the cores given over to the Apu. Should be speedyI ended up with a Dell as it seemed to be alright for my needs. I think it was good value but not really clued up enough
All it has to do is assignments so should be ok

as long as you have a good firewall or antivirus the later been the main one you should be safeI think the scare mongering of the security of up to date OS is what makes me think of upgrading to 11, which would need a newer compatible processor to be supported, which in reality will be the motherboard too, I will probably only do that if the tower lasts until microsoft stop security updates for windows 10.
I may try linux from a disk/stick drive as you say, I had not realised just how small some of the versions of linux are.
That's generally platform agnostic though, there is no protection for click-through hacking, fraud, ID theft other than education and even then, greed will always be the downfall. If someone thinks they are getting a good deal, or something for free, they'll click anything put in front of them because 'it's only the internet' You can put multi-layered protection in place and they will still complain that the can't get to this or that site to get 'their' stuff and 'the network' is blocking them, so if you can just unblock it for me, that'd be great.....some tech isnt for some people
those ones that click yes button to go away sort of person not realising what there agreeing too
had it with daughter until she learnt not to do
another person much older shouldnt be on it
agrees to everything so then crashes there own pc then says not my fault
Agree with you re the Dell's. I have always had Dell desktops at home and the only problem was a 'suspected' fault with the HD and was dealt with by Dell in a heartbeat. Great service. Laptops have always been Acer, and again, never had a problemI am driven to resurrect this thread owing to a recent experience. I have bought and recommended Dell laptops for many years and I have caused hundreds to be bought. My latest and greatest thing is a Precision, I always buy a Top of the Range thing as it last longer in usability terms. About six weeks ago it started playing up, BSOD (which I hadn't seen for years - Blue Screen of Death) and on two occasions corrupted the BIOS, Dell came out and replaced the motherboard. I received, totally out of the blue, a phone call yesterday checking everything was still okay, as it happens it isn't and they were on my list to call, They are collecting the machine tomorrow at my suggestion then they can soak test it before it is returned. absolute sterling service and the machine is two years old! If they weren't fixing it I would have to buy another as this machine I am typing on won't run my CAD programs.
You really didn't like it thenAbsolute heap of junk. Looks like it was made in the 90's and got painted silver. Samsung really had their marketing dept work on covering this turd in glitter.
