I've had my Mondeo 6 years, done 40,000 miles, and never activated the ABS. Even when it's been icy out I've not felt that juddering foot pedal, maybe it doesn't actually work.I'm sure it doesn't help that most cars these days are so over equipped in the braking department hey never get a good workout
Its a lot more subtle these days ,,, first car I drove with abs was an armored Granada , and the abs tried to kick the pedal so hard you would have sworn it was trying to put your knee through the steering wheel ,,, my 107 just purrs a little bit and you can just about hear it ,,, now granted you notice when you dont stop as fast as you think you should ,,,I've had my Mondeo 6 years, done 40,000 miles, and never activated the ABS. Mind you, I'm a steady driver/rider, last time I changed my bike front brake pads I noted I'd got 25,000 miles on them.![]()

Front Offside is a classic rust due to a knackered gaiter. I'm almost pleased that's all it is. Was solid when jacked up and wheel hard to turn. Piston pitted so it's to the bin. Either repair kit or replace caliper(s) next. Rear nearside still to be investigated. That one's <2yrs old,
That was my immediate opinion also...But it cleaned up remarkable well. Ordered a kit 1st class post includes new piston as well as seals. Royal Mail????Exchange calipers - forget about repair kits - it would be "gods own work" to reseat boots in that rusty dead core I am looking at in the photos.

Realised later I'd fitted the CV clip erroneously. i.e. tail should be pointing in opposite direction to forward rotation. Put it down to youthful impetuosity. I was only 71 at the time.
It's when I'm 'Soft-roading' through deep pile carpets and get the weft caught when there's an issue. Can get pretty nasty..... hence the description. *h*g pile carpetsI guarantee many places would not even think about the finer details like that and with a well fitting crimp I doubt it really makes any difference.
The kit comes with 2 satchets, But I have some special grease alluding to being the best for slider pins. I have silicone grease but that isn't recommened for brakesGet yourself some red rubber grease or silicon grease for reassembly. Many recommend brake fluid but I always find silicon grease is easier to use.
This is what I use on the sliders and spots where the pads rest on the mounts

The seal I was referring to was the brake cylinder one, not the CV.Can't remember if I damaged the seal in the process or noticed it looked damaged. Of course no-one kn
One plus is mpg has gone from ~33 mpg local (mixed) to 43mpg. Must have been binding for quiet a while? Explains why caravan seemed heavier recently.
Top mpg from on board ECU is 53mpg. For a 2ltr diesel towcar is quite impressive, unless they've (Ford) have done a volkswagen on it.![]()
