assuming the yellow wire was in place before you started - it sounds like you’re not the first person to connect the jump battery backwards and blow the fusible link.
I am not familiar with the G1700 but wouldn’t think the problem is with any of the safety switches as I think you should have power to the dash & ignition lights anyway. I think the seat switch brake pedal switch & the switch for the rotor only stop the engine cranking.
Well it's a bit more than 12V but would presumably be enough to light the dash lights up. No point buying a new battery yet if everything is deadI might have missed a few posts here but it sounds like that battery is knackered if you only got 12 volt at the terminals.
Another quick check would be to make sure power is getting to (and past) the fuses.
Connect the -ve probe of the test meter to a good earth, without removing the fuses use +ve probe to check both ends of each fuse.
- this will show the power is getting to the fuse, and that's it's passing the power on.
Some fuses will only get power when you turn the key (preheat circuit, starter circuit etc)
If desperate you should be able to remove the combo box and recreate what it does:
From the ignition key you know which wire is to run (to the run solenoid), which is preheat (to the glowplugs) and which is start (to the starter)
I don't know how you can test the combo box so no way of knowing if that's dead or if it's a loose wire somewhere else that's causing the problem.
Would be a shame to buy a new box if that's not the fault.

Thanks for the update, glad it's sorted. Some poor connections look good and test ok with a meter but break down when you put large current through them - ie when you actually need them to work !Result was it was back about a week later working fine and no electrics replaced but they had tightened up the universal -VE battery lead he'd put on it.
So I guess the lesson to be learned is - don't always assume it'll be something really expensive that's causing the problem![]()
Yamaha makes VOM's ?
