Sounds mental but now I'm feeling a bit better it makes me feel good just coming in here and sitting down even if I'm doing nothing.
The smell of oil, rubber, petrol and Kid Rock on the radio, it settles my soul.

"The Third Place" is something I saw recently and it made a lot of sense.
For more than a century workers in Western countries split their time between 3 areas (often home, work, and pub/other). Pubs are now closed / closing, work has changed a lot in the last 10 years ... it all has a big impact on mental health.

Mine is my sanctuary from people and modern life, and its always been important to me to have one.
A few times at work if I'm wrestling with some particular technical problem or a co-worker is being a dick (I work in computer security... its not unknown), I take the laptop in there and just work for a bit stood up at the workbench to get some zen and calm myself down.

Everybody needs, as Virginia Woolf says, A Room of One's Own. A sanctuary, an oasis, a quiet corner. I like sitting in my resto car project on my own, messing with the radio to get it playing tunes, just enjoying its unique smell.

I start a chainsaw up in my shed every now and then just to make it smell right. I quite often just go in there and put some tools back in there homes. No people, no jobs that have to be done, no worries.

I too find it deeply therapeutic, blood pressure feels like it drops noticeably on crossing the threshold!

A little sanctuary from this ever more manic world is not a bad thing.
We live in a very virtual world with everything on apps, online, on the phone etc.
There is something very cathartic about dealing with tangible Stuff.

Still do my hour a day no matter what, I find the peace and quiet can be deafening, the Who take care of that

I honestly could not live without mine...in mine at 6.30AM with coffee and GB news on wall mounted telly every single morning getting work stuff ready, back home mid afternoon and straight in for at least 2 hours fixing/making/just tinkering.

pottering about doing small jobs or tidying,
just rewired a charger for a duff ebay multitool,
