I would swing that around and say why pay so much more for the same imported welder becbeca it has a different badge and a loading accross the board if you pay via bax or 0%.?
Lorch guaantee is pretty darn hot as are others

A large majority of welders are imported and many made I China RTec now state there chipsets are made in Germany and the USA and the American tie in continues with the possible link to everlast .0% finance drives sales that in turn puts the unit price down per unit look at all large manufacturers cars / truck / tractors they all do it and in many cases the 0% is written in to the price it allso gives them a steady cash flow .

I have a R-Tech MTS255S and it is a nice machine, works pretty good although the synergic settings, for Alu at least, are rubbish and unusable. In manual mode though it is excellent for a standard Mig.
I also have an EWM Phoenix Puls which I bought second hand and it cost more than twice as much second hand as the R-Tech new but it is 10x times the quality and usability of the R-Tech.
Would I buy a new EWM? Yes if I could afford it but .... well I think second hand is more likely.

The old triton 220’s pop up for sale every now and then for sensible money. I used one for years at my old job. Dam it was an excellent machine. About the same era as your mig. So reliable too. It was used everyday for the 10 years I was there without a single reason for the covers to come off. Went through a good few torches mind.

They crop up used every now and then. Problem with miller and Fronius for that matter is they seem to be priced up too close to new money and people pay it.
It’s very hard to find any of those 2 at a good deal.

I don’t care what is paid to whom and why. Point is the 0% finance makes no difference to the consumer. He isn’t paying any more or less than buying it out right. There for buying a welder on 0% finance isn’t a bad thing if you haven’t the cash to stump up front.
It suits some people and it doesn’t for others.

And how would you compare to a Magicwave? Well I think I know which you will rate the highest but how would you say the GP compares?

I can’t compare it to a magic wave I’m afraid. Until I get chance to play with a hitachi I’ll never know how good they are.
What I can say is I’ve seen Hugh’s work with his and if that is all I’ve got to go by then I’d say it’s a cracking Machine.

Hugh is actually a better man to ask that question as he has used both a magicwave 2200 and his hitachi. He can offer a better comparison than I could.

Ah Ok thought you had had a play around with Hughes Hitachi.

It certainly seems to be one to consider although I suppose they are getting long in the tooth now and I wouldn't have a clue about fixing them so... well I would have to be getting a good deal on one I think.
