As said take the chuck off and clock the spindle noise then work back from there.
Certainly not a Chinese made one, early 70's M300, the 140 was better at half the hp.No machine, no matter how good or expensive, will withstand endless abuse. What over priced rubbish lathe do you use now?
the last one from china is adequate for fractional hp motorsSo if I got throw type switch and also wired in a nvr switch ? Are the ones linked ok to use with the myford or are they cheap crap and gona smoke after about 5 mins of use.
I retained the standard Myford switch and wired in an NVR on the supply:

As dobbsic says, it allows plenty of thinking time before you hit the go button and things start rotating....
I think I'd want the NVR anywhere but behind the lathe - ideally at hip level [or thereabouts in front of the machine].
