Sorry just to confirm while I'm confused

he says its a 415 so does that mean that it can run a 415v mig then ?

Or is that bit just tosh and its a big 230v mig he's running

Yeah the idea was to up the voltage for the tig so it would draw less current but if thats not needed then do you think that would be powerful enough to drive a good sized lathe or miller ?

If it did up the voltage, it would draw more current than on 230V.

At 8HP, it should run most any lathe or miller. You will lose about 1/4 the torque on the motor. A static converter really only drives 2 phases and a smaller current on the 3rd.

Looking at his photos it clearly says 220/110 but there's no mention of 415.

At least it'll drive a lathe, means I can turn off a few more landrover bits and get a nice big pillar drill or radial arm if I can get a steal on one!

to me that looks like it will produce 110V or 220V three phase (as used on other side of pond) i have my doubts that it would run a welder (maybe a 220V three phase input like my miller can do as its american) the single phase consumtion will be massive!

it will run three phase machines that have duel voltage motors

Thanks will ask him when he replies then, was ideally wanting it for a welder/lathe power but if its not going to power it then I'll have to have a word with him about it. May as well run that big tig off the mains in that case and wire up a new 60A circuit

Penrith. it depends on if the voltages stated are line or phase voltage (one phase to earth or between phases) 415V 3ph (well 400V if you want the be eu about it) is 415V between phases and 240V (220-230V for the eu again!) to earth.

As it looks not to have a Neutral on the output i would guess its 220V between phases and 110V to earth.

can't say for sure but its unlikely. 220V 3ph is still useful for lots of machines as the motors are duel voltage so as long as its nota Fing big lathe should be fine

I was looking at something like a medium sized DSG from the 60's/70's so something decent sized or possibly a large stanko as I can get a bigger one of them for less than a DSG

8hp is a decent Size motor but the1ph input will be big current just use same supply as your tig welder

Need to practice some stick as well as I wont be tigging up an entire bumper or chassis
