welcome....
seeing the lump in the backround ull need to brush up on ur electrical skills....

when I lived in Calif I made up a kit of parts to convert the V12 XJS's to the proper old 350 Chevy engine and box.....
Eng and gearboxes were crate fresh....plus I got 5 core rads made up....I also got Euro headlights imported, as they were quite a fashion statement then.....lol...
always had a q of cars waitring...
after the conversion they became a nice reliable car, well under the bonnet, plus u could get it fixed anywhere...
there were so many old V12 engines n gearboxes in storage, literally pilled on top of one another.....in the end scrapped the lot....
what a load of garbage....

Yep the beast in the background i've rebuilt mechanically not a spec of rust on it, electrically its not complicated at all really, not compared to modern motors..

I've heard of people converting the original engines to something else, but to be fair not really a fan personally. The V12's and 6's are part of the character, if a mechanic has any semblance of ability the old V12's and 6's aren't that hard to work on.

But luckily you don't really see XJS and E types being mutilated anymore.

Plus. I've found that over the years all the conversions fall by the wayside as parts for a myriad of random engines become unavailable, only the original engines seem to be supported.

bought an XJ6 on ebay while I was on a morphine drip after crushing my left wrist and realise I needed an automatic

it must have been about 10 years back, it was a really nice car, think it was a P reg, 3.2 straight six with the 4 speed box, it was surprisingly quick

it was the main reason I bought a 04 XJR right after

loved the XJR but it was too los and killed my back :-(


you could really tell the time taken building the XJ6, real attention to detail

First thing I did to the old girl was pull the wheels off and asses how much if any rust was on the underside.

These usually suffer with rust everywhere so I was apprehnsive..

It sounds bizarre but I started by thouroughly cleaning the underside removing all traces of dirt/grime to reveal what was really there.

To say I was pleasantly surprised was an understatement.

I was expecting to have to fire up the mig withing the first few days of ownership..

More to come "to bore you all to tears" just have to sort out the pictures

Next up a very common old car foible, the headliner.

in my case it was held up with some shiny sparkly pins, to the credit of the old owner it was done tidily not a rush job bit the saggy material just let down what is a lovely interior..

sooo..

it took some faff to get out but luckily it came out the rear door aperture, eventually....

A bit of twisting and cramp later we have....

Much better, amazing really the difference it made, the first thing people would comment on would be the duvet hanging from the roof..

I have noticed i probably could do with a better camera, it doesn't do it justice!
