Just seems like a missed opportunity...in the past designers went to extraordinary lengths to wrap a sleek design around a bulky ICE engine.

EV designers have the luxury of a flat floor battery and small powerful motors....just seems like they lack imagination.

Could put a rolls Royce Merlin in the monstrosity they envisaged, unfortunately I doubt they will

Not necessarily, given the level of seniority, how much a head of design needs to know about future direction, and how commercially sensitive strategy information is I could see the company deciding that any parting of ways that wasn't 100% mutual needed to be as quick as possible.

I have had a ringside seat to the main event for a couple C-Suite level sackings, and they all happened like a lightning bolt.

The first was whilst I was out to dinner with our team in the UAE, the CEO left to take a call, walked back in, told us he was sacked and ordered 3 bottles of Johnny Walker Blue to the table (it was not a big table).

More memorably I was on a call with the COO having my annual performance review when the "Chief People Officer" walked into his office and told him he was dismissed effective immediately.

Fortunately he had already documented the pay rise we'd agreed he had determined he could justify and told me was all I could hope for, otherwise I would have been doubly shafted.

In my experience this kind of thing is rarely a sign of a healthy organisation, making changes that close to the top in anything less than the most glacial of paces is usually a sign of major dysfunction.


Neither of those people had done anything wrong, and they were both taking the company in the right direction... But they had made decisions which whilst right for the company upset shareholders who had a lot of influence at board level, so it was curtains, *just like that!*

Like you say, it's not something that a company with a healthy work culture would do.

Problem with designing a radically different car is the lead time and cost .If the new 'interesting ' is a flop then the whole business is put in jepody far safer to just tickle the edges of an existing known design. The new models need to be different enough to tempt the punters but not THAT different. History is littered with interesting cars and motorcycles that failed the consumer test.
