A friend has given me a little challenge to do on my lathe, he's building a large saw mill and needs to solidly mount 2 Skoda wheels to 2 shafts.
He's welded a couple of old 3/4" sockets into the hubs he's bought and needs them machining out to an interference fit on the shafts.
Here's a picture.
I'll also tidy up the welding!
I'm thinking of setting the hubs up in a 4 jaw chuck then drilling them out with a blacksmiths drill bit in the tailstock chuck. I can then use a boring bar to get them to size.
I don't think I could bore them out as they are without lots of vibration and damaged inserts!
What are your thoughts?
I've been given these 2 shafts as payment and will have a bit of sawn timber too hopefully.
I don't know what material they are but it looks like mild steel and expensive! They are about a meter long and 25mm diameter.
They came out the skip at his work
