Well firstly, and most importantly, it's not fixing the problem that's causing the non-start condition in the first place.Why is that then?
Secondly, it's an uncontrolled 'fuel' with a higher cetane rating that often detonates - yes, detonates, before it should, potentially causing short-term damage to the inlet system (burst intercooler or pipes) or long term damage to the mechanical parts of the engine. Following on from that, if it fails to detonate, it also strips lubrication from the cylinder walls, rings etc. leading to scoring of cylinder bores, dilution of engine oil and resultant long-term damage that would cause.
