What about the Mercedes offering?

Honestly haven’t looked at a replacement for the L200 as it still runs, and will take a ton in the back with issue.

Had looked at the Hilux a bit, as the in-laws have one, but it’s dire apparently. The new L200 is a lot of plastic too apparently.

I'm looking at a 15 plate, was parked next to a very plasticky 65 plate, I'm guessing that's the newest style?

Instant put off on the 65 was the 4wd controls are now electronic and you cant be in 4 low without centre diff lock, to me that defeats the object of having 4 low

It’s a rebadged Nissan although they have lengthened it and mad the roof lower the mechanicals are the same

spoke to a guy parked next to me yesterday with a isuzu reckoned dealer was very good as had a dpf problem, cost over three grand but was under warranty, he was pleased with it,just over 40mpg on a run, size wise with mine next to it was a lot bigger.
you pays your money and takes your choice really, none are perfect.

It won’t need to be D2 territory as it’s strictly for work, I need to get to jobs up farm tracks and still get about in the snow but sadly no playing in the mud

Have you thought about a king cab version, where you only have small seating area for passengers, most make them, much better load space ,but to small to use with 4 adults in reality ,worth checking out suitability tho.

How about a soft-dash Range Rover Classic (diesel) pickup? I know of one with a solid chassis, solid electrics just needs a bit of bodywork finished off from the conversion and a dust off. Given limited market the price we were thinking of was waaay below the £10k you mention.

I don’t want a project, I want more modern and better mpg

Going to have to disagree, both models are rubbish

They are so bad the organisation I work for are not getting anymore. Rangers were our go to model of truck. Very dissapointed in them. Ours get serviced as per Fords recommendations, basically they want for nothing and still breakdown regularly.

In all fairness, your style of work would make any pickup seem rubbish, I don’t know many that could take daily off-road use by a fleet of drivers who drive it knowing they dont pay the service bills - I’ve got one of your ex Rangers and it hasnt missed a beat for me, been a great pickup, only issue is looming rust on arches but even japs are notorious for that.

I’ve had Defenders, Navaras, Rangers, Land cruisers, Discos in the family for years and every other truck mentioned here owned by friends, I could say something negative about all of them. If you’re after the perfect truck it doesnt exist, pick the one that suits you and go for it. Not sure about all the brand snobbery, doesnt sound like you’re being very objective, “would have to look at it in my drive way / would rather walk” - more like how my wife picks a car - if the colour matches her lipstick.

Farmer friend uses the Isuzu but that could be because its 0% interest for all I know. I’ll ask him when I see him.

Would rather walk if I'm honest

So would i took one on a test drive clutch seemed set in concrete and you dont have the driving position of my series landy or van to put any real force on it comfortably. plus it felt way too wide it and even though im 6'1 i couldnt see the bonnet which is a requirement in a 4x4 for me and the interior was just to flash/car like. I swithering between a transporter t6 crew cab 4motion and a d max. Would like to setup a mobile workshop in the back with bott or synchro racking so i think the transporter may take it so going to see if i can get a test drive of both next week.

Unashamedly I put how it looks quite high up, I am a reformed (ish) boy racer and used to be a detailing fanatic. The “I’d rather walk” was in regards to the VW, hate them with a passion

My work truck gets treated like it was my own. No joke.The only off roading it does is forest tracks at 15mph, my quad does all the off roady stuff. My last two rangers never missed a beat, brilliant trucks. These new ones are rubbish.

Have a mate who was waiting and waiting for them to release it, then when they did he was not impressed. Ended up keeping his Izuzu

I think Mercedes were just jumping on the "construction" director bandwagon , but ultimately they are just not all that practical to use as a normal "car"
