Our lads still use solvents from our production process for degreasing at work - Tetrahydrofuran and Toluene, often mixed. Superb degreaser, especially when you get it in 3 gallon buckets and really slosh it about It's a good bit stronger than Acetone, it's really nasty for your hands though, dries them out even without any reactions/dermatitis.
Not sure what is stronger - THF/Tol, or cellulose thinners - anyway in my workshop I like to keep a gallon of each - cellulose thinners, acetone, IPA, and brake cleaner - and in that order, rate them from strong to weak, and use according to the job. ie brake cleaner is safer for painted surfaces etc.
