Hi,
I'm just starting to learn Tig welding and am interested in welding aluminium. Lots of YouTube videos show Acetone being used as a cleaner prior to welding. I have 5L of Isopropyl 99.99% bought for use in French polishing and as I've still got plenty is this suitable as an Acetone replacement please. I'm aware certain substances like brake cleaner give off toxic fumes so better to ask rather than guess. I've also got plenty of Methylated Spirit if this also would be suitable. I don't want a workshop full of assorted highly flammable liquids for obvious safety reasons.
In 1973 I was employed as a glass fiber laminator and we always had two large open containers of Acetone for tool cleaning; one day there was a whoosh and both containers burst into flames; the ignition source was roof windows in brilliant sunlight.
Kind regards, Colin.
