if I was going to chop a container up I wouldn't cut it into slices like short tubes, I'd cut the roof off first, then the walls, then the front and back, then weld some angle iron on the inisde when welding it back together

but personally, for all that time and effort, might as well build something else

you can pour the walls first before the floor

instead of a slab build

with both its just build the blocks afterwards

What is your budget and what size do you want? 8' may be a bit narrow by the time you have inevitably put stuff against the walls. What is the ground like and how much weight do you plan on putting in it? What do you want to use it for?

I know I'm very late chipping in on this but I did look at getting a container behind my house. The main advantage is that it's very secure and doesn't require a foundation.

I tried a couple of craning companies, they said they get asking to move containers over a house very often but the reach is too far.

The flat pack containers are not containers, they are cheap, flimsey and nothing like the real thing. There are a couple of folding containers which are ISO certified, but are made of composite and very expensive. Let us know if you succeed in cutting an reassembling.

Think I've seen pictures of combines etc. being loaded into containers for shipping. From memory these containers have removable sides and roof could be the frame is also bolted so collapsible.
