Had it last spring. Up the lane there is a pond, and a village green on the other side of the lane.

A duck was trying to shepherd her ducklings from the green back to the pond, but a couple of them were more interested in nibbling the spring flowers.
I stopped the van to watch them while she got them safely across. Woman in a Range Rover arrives behind and starts tooting. Then started ranting about being late for tennis.

I made her wait.

Thats the bit that has got me, nobody gave a S#!t.

They do, most of them would have had their phones out filming it so they had something to post up about their very sad and shallow lives on social media. This happened a while back with a load of horses running about loose on the m4, swmbo and her crew were running about trying to capture them while hundreds of folk were waving phones about filming it.

Twice last year I managed to catch a dog just before it ran across a busy main road, different dogs but both Jack Russels on different roads. Both times I managed to find the owners. I would like to think that if my Jack Russell was running loose someone would do the same for her?

No.
The country is full of xxxts these days.
I spent an enjoyable hour herding some long horn cows back to the common last summer.
We still don't know how the little sods got out in the first place.

I picked up a 'dead' badger down one of the lanes one night. as it happens he wasn't dead at all just stunned, he came round in the car and just sat there looking out of the window like a dog.
I took him back to a friend's yard with a view to taking him to the vet the following day to see what the damage was. he was placed in a vacant stable with a bowl of water and some bedding, but by this time he'd very much come back to life. he was trying to climb the brickwork to get out. having had a look at him previously there wasn't any visible injuries and he seemed very sound now he'd come to a bit more, so after a bit of a conference we decided to let him go, I opened the door and he toddled off down the field quite happily.
it was only half a mile away, if that, where I found him so I'm sure he got home ok !
