Had it last spring. Up the lane there is a pond, and a village green on the other side of the lane.

A duck was trying to shepherd her ducklings from the green back to the pond, but a couple of them were more interested in nibbling the spring flowers.
I stopped the van to watch them while she got them safely across. Woman in a Range Rover arrives behind and starts tooting. Then started ranting about being late for tennis.

I made her wait.

Thats the bit that has got me, nobody gave a S#!t.

They do, most of them would have had their phones out filming it so they had something to post up about their very sad and shallow lives on social media. This happened a while back with a load of horses running about loose on the m4, swmbo and her crew were running about trying to capture them while hundreds of folk were waving phones about filming it.

Twice last year I managed to catch a dog just before it ran across a busy main road, different dogs but both Jack Russels on different roads. Both times I managed to find the owners. I would like to think that if my Jack Russell was running loose someone would do the same for her?

No.
The country is full of xxxts these days.
I spent an enjoyable hour herding some long horn cows back to the common last summer.
We still don't know how the little sods got out in the first place.

I picked up a 'dead' badger down one of the lanes one night. as it happens he wasn't dead at all just stunned, he came round in the car and just sat there looking out of the window like a dog.
I took him back to a friend's yard with a view to taking him to the vet the following day to see what the damage was. he was placed in a vacant stable with a bowl of water and some bedding, but by this time he'd very much come back to life. he was trying to climb the brickwork to get out. having had a look at him previously there wasn't any visible injuries and he seemed very sound now he'd come to a bit more, so after a bit of a conference we decided to let him go, I opened the door and he toddled off down the field quite happily.
it was only half a mile away, if that, where I found him so I'm sure he got home ok !

Incidentally, why were you picking up "dead" badgers? Are you planning to get one mounted? They look great in a glass case.

One of the young heffers had got out of the field onto a lane I was walking down, so I went back to tell the farmer as I didn't want to spook it further up the lane.
By the time we got to where it was the bugger was back in the field.

Only yesterday a young pigeon which looked slightly under the weather landed in my yard...everyone who works around me saying its knacked so pull its neck, one thing that boils my pizz is animal cruelty put it under the hedge last night and this morning at 6am picked it up and examined its wings and feathers...all good to go for a trial flight cupped it in my hand and launched it skywards, it went straight into flight mode and landed right in a tree 100 meters away.

Well, I came across it when driving down said lane, in the headlights I thought I possibly saw some slight movement in him though he was pretty inert, so bundled him up in a blanket and stuck him in the front seat beside me. l wasn't going to just leave him for the next car to steam over, dead, dying or whatever.
..obviously being in a warm car was somewhat reviving and he woke up as mentioned !
I suppose over the years I've rescued loads of critters one way or another.
We had a poorly crow at the yard once, I took him home for a couple of days, then we made a 'house' for him in an old Land Rover, which was his recovery room ! It's interesting that when he was poorly he got quite tame, but as soon as he was feeling better he reverted to being more wild. Anyway after a number of days resting up and being fed he seemed much improved so we let him go. he flew off and seemed fine, He was seen around the place for a while afterwards, obviously there was no shortage of food on offer !

We recently got a dog from the local rescue shelter, which I suppose is relevant to this topic in a way. She had heartworm, a urinary tract infection and was not house trained and nobody would take her. That's all being addressed but now she's taken to digging in the yard. She's a small breed, which is a new experience for me.

I’ve pickup one dog that was running scared. A lurcher, eventually came on the owners who didn’t care. I should have kept it, lovely big dog. It deserved better.

Sort of similar, but not quite. When I was having my precast garage built, one of the guys walked into the house with a budgie sat on his finger. It had obviously escaped from somewhere, and he was absolutely knackered. MrsH cobbled together a little cage and got him some water, followed by a trip out to buy some budgie seed. He wasn't fitted with a ring, and was very young. TBH we didn't really try to find where he came from because he settled right in and we had him for years. He was a proper talker too.

So what would plod have done if you said that you couldn't take it to the vets? Probably on his way to arrest a hardened criminal for a nasty comment that they wrote on faceache! About sums up the state we are in.
