I started on our kitchen about 20 years ago. I'd say it's about 2/3 rds there now.
Is there room on that page for one more? My philosophy completely "work to live not live to work" Just enough IS enough.I think we are on the same page mate, i believe in this life there are things far more important than counting money and having homes like new pins, i don't chase money anymore and i like my home to be a safe place to live and not a show home. Good on you mate and glad to hear your son is loving life too![]()
my bathroom has been a 18 month projectI started on our kitchen about 20 years ago. I'd say it's about 2/3 rds there now.
I am currently sat in the future kitchen, which was an animal barn thing.I would have been surprised if mat said he would come back.
Father got into France years ago doing work for a guy that used to purchase what you would call peasant houses then convert them ie animals were kept down stairs while the people lived upstairs he would concrete in the floors downstairs add staircase and rooms then the guy sold them to uk clients.
Just think, if you pull your finger out and finish it, just how much 3xtra time youll have for unfinished projects!I am currently sat in the future kitchen, which was an animal barn thing.
Yes, I understand.
You've only just started . I began my self build in '75 and still have a few things to finish. My theory is if it's unfinished no one can criticize it. That has the advantage of not asking the critique show me what you have done.I started on our kitchen about 20 years ago. I'd say it's about 2/3 rds there now.
'When' I pull my finger out... Sell the other house, I'll be mortgage free, then, and then, I'll get on with the Morris Minors, Citroen HY, Commer TS3, 1950 Renault Truck, all the projects are sat in the barn, all the tools, welders, 4 post lifts, it's all there, just need concrete floors.Just think, if you pull your finger out and finish it, just how much 3xtra time youll have for unfinished projects!

In the early 80's my boss accused me of working on the house instead of wandering around the countryside for him. i replied that if I was working on it full time i would have finished it years before . It had to fit in with hobbies etc as well as work . Biggest strain was keeping SWMBO placated and work and race bikes and bring up 2 kids while living for a while in a s/h mobile home in the garden. All good fun.Just think, if you pull your finger out and finish it, just how much 3xtra time youll have for unfinished projects!
I converted my barns. They are now finished and earning money, so Ino longer need to work. Sometimes finishing things has a bonus. Your barn could be an income generator…..your in the right area. Mortgage free is a great state of mind, well worth the effort to get there IMHO.'When' I pull my finger out... All my future projects are lined up.
Just lacking time and money.

It was my current boss who sent me the link, he used to work on the Norfolk broads, it was his mate, who rents out boats over there.£49k a year on the broads. Blimey!

That's good money for here in Norfolk£49k a year on the broads. Blimey!
It's the same in blighty......Seriously, I know I could earn twice what I earn on the Norfolk broads, where they're looking for boat mechanics at £49k, but frankly, no, firstly my severely autistic son (13) is in an amazing institution, 4 days a week, taxi to and from, all covered by the government, which changes our lives, but equally importantly he loves it. We've a huge house and garden (frankly, it's too big, and difficult to heat), which honestly cost us less than €50k, yeah, a poop load of work to do, might get finished one day, we don't live like 'normal' people, our kitchen is still 'temporary' six years later, but like I give a poop. When we sell our other house, yes, still haven't emptied it, mainly 'cos of my workshop, which needs moving here, and the workshop here still no concrete floor, for the lathe and mill due to lack of funds.........
So in short, or long, no, I'd never consider moving back, I love it here.
But, honestly, financially, things are currently pretty bloody tight, but it's not just me, it's everyone.
We're not all mortgage free and retired, sadly.

Whilst you cannot buy “happiness”, money gives you choices and it’s the ones you make that get you a happy life.Money pays bills and buys food, but not hapiness
