I just got the V5c back for my Mk2 Jaguar, sent it in over two months ago for a colour change, engine cc and number change, historic tax class change, all done except the new cc, they say I need to send it back and wait another 8-12 weeks, FFS,
800,000 letters!!!Apparently 80,000 unopened letters!

The headquarters recently had a backlog of about 800,000 unopened letterswww.leicestermercury.co.uk
I’ve bought 2 vehicles and sold 1 in the last few, months, and the V5’s arrived within 5 days each time, all done on line. I doubt human beings are involved, it’s probably all automated.Just had a V5C for a new project back in a week!
I blame it on the increase in degrees, which quite often is just a lesson on how to doss and run up debt!ANY service organisation (Police, Fire Brigade, NHS, Council) is now heavily overburdened by the Fkwit Department. A steady drai on resource and funds. It really needs to stop, but it won't be.
Problem is, I believe it’s still mainly based in Swansea and I’m not sure there is a ready supply of people that want to work there.I was given one of those Chinese 49cc scooters by a mate who doesn't use it anymore. It's in good nick although it's been off the road for over 2 years. Anyway, he had lost the V5 [log book] so I applied to the DVLC using one of the SORN letters he had. He filled my address in and signed it and I posted it. That was 2 months ago and I've never heard a thing from them. I rang the DVLC up after 3 weeks and got a recorded message stating they were on Industrial action... I think that means a strike! . Lazy gits! . I did notice all the gov.uk sites I visited to check a vehicle were not available. What the heck have they got to take industrial action over? no doubt they'll be on decent wages and most I would think will be working from home. Sack the lot of them and employ people who want to work
Maybe they need one each in England, Scotland, Ireland and leave to rest of the lazy dossers for Wales.
Hi, From what I understand NI have their own DVA, but some of it's responsibilities and work is based in Swansea.

As I have Type 1 diabetes I have a three-year licence and have to renew; received the renewal form on Saturday BUT this time they've offered online renewal - so I went through the process.
First off, I had to create a UK government 'Digidentity' which links up with my passport and driving licence; I never knew until yesterday that you can read your passport using a mobile phone and NFC! Despite me having a full beard the app I had to install on my phone was able to scan my face and acknowledge that I am actually who I am. All quite slick and, European rather than UK based - not that it bothers me one iota.

Once that was done it was all linked to the DVLA and I filled in a few online forms and gave them my diabetes specialist's details; I'm more than happy to do it all online and if it speeds up the process then all is good.
I have type 2 diabetes with the 3 year license, I filled out an online renewal but they posted me medical forms to get filled in (twice!) and it took over a year to get sorted out!
Anything automated is working fine, I've done a few V5 transfers over lockdown which have been back within 3-4 days. It's the stuff that requires a human with some common sense that's causing the issue. My youngest took months to get his provisional licence, my wife even put in a covering letter and contact numbers etc yet they still sent it back with some generic response, the annoying thing is the system should be able to use the passport photo as a friend of ours got her licence in a couple of weeks.Just had a V5C for a new project back in a week!
