Sorry when you buy a car you cannot transfer the road tax, been like this for a couple of years.So if you buy a car thats just had MOT, and tax it, the next time you tax it you have to do it a month earlier?
I actually did it with my bike, as I knew the road tax was going to go up in the budget, so I taxed it a month early, I saved £3

Nope, because if you tax a car with a full MOT next time you tax it, it will again have had a new MOT. Alternatively you can tax any time at the post office so long as the MOT is current. Another option is that you can MOT a month before it expires and gain 13 months MOT test, or even earlier if you want but you'll only get one month added on to the 12 even if you had 2-3 moths remaining.

I just taxed my new 850cc trike: £98
I pay £30 for my diseasel Mondeo. And £80 for my 1100cc motorcycle.
My "new" licence finally arrived today! But I was wondering if I broke the law still driving as I suppose it could be assumed that I did not have a licence. This is even though the licence I sent to the DVLA was valid to my birthday which is at the end of this month? I mention this as in the correspondence that came with the new licence, which has a starting day of the 16 July, they mention you cannot drive without a licence. But on the request to send my licence to them they did not state that I was unable to drive until the new licence was issued!
The phrase used is hold or have held especially when renewing for medical or age reasons as you then have the section 88 clause.

Hi, The last time I renewed my HGV the doctor's surgery messed up my eye test for the medical (there are two sizes of Snellen chart done at two different distances, guess what...) so it was decided I would go for an optician eye test 
Which was submitted with the medical form. The next thing I get a letter to say it had gone to their medical review board. As my licence was about to run out I phoned up to find out if I could drive or not, I was told "If you haven't had a letter to say you can't drive, then you can carry on". I found out later it was because I had sent more information than they were expecting so it went for review. It was all approved later and sent out to me.

No , send it back cut in half , just comply with their legal order then there is no come back on you . For folks with a blue badge or any other official document that says send it back do as they request it'll save you a shed load of problems later on.
Even record it if you like so if there is a motorway fire , robbery etc. and you document gets burnt or goes walkies you will have some sort of record of sending it.
DVLA came back to me almost five years after I'd transferred our old BX to our daughter and it had been scrapped nearly 2 yrs ... outstanding traffic fines etc. seems they never got the notification or more likely they lost it in their chaotic system .
Not long after that event we get a replacement drivers licence for someone younger than me , looking nothing like me & with a different name many letters further along the alphabet than my surname. & totally driving groups but the address was perfect .. someone not checking things properly . Hope they got chewed as I sent it back recorded & cut in bits.

Over 550 quid for my 14 yr old 3.2 litre Alfa . . . and 275 quid for my 5.7 litre 5 yr old Dodge . . . same as the 1600cc Caterham. As far as I can tell the inbox for licences sent back goes straight into file 13 with no checks done.
Even the DVSA will accept a licence with the wrong issue number to allow you to take a test.
It would be a massive undertaking to account for all returned licences & they cant even account for all issued ones.

The Public and Commercial Services Union said an agreement on improved working conditions was withdrawn ‘without any explanation’.
Anything that is automated is fine, we bought a car last Monday, did the transfer online Tuesday had the V5 Friday.
My youngest has had similar issues to @mr_splatter, we applied but the passport had expired. The wording makes it sound like they can use the passport photo. We renewed the passport which took less than a week to come back. Wife sent a cover letter with all the details including a link to a passport photo. Weeks later we get a refund cheque then all of the documents with a letter no photo supplied so we've gone through it all again. The cover letter had a phone number, it would have taken 2mins to resolve but no.
Everyone out there is under pressure so we don't really need an important government operation being plagued by industrial action.

More like 6 of one & half a dozen of the other , unions & management rarely ever get on with each other especially in the government departments where it's nigh impossible to get shut of the duffers and waisters.
It was put to me years ago in the early 1970's that unions only exist for the benefit of their members not the greater majority of the population . So far I've seen very little to prove otherwise.
