Their language evolved mainly from English of 200 yrs (ish or so ) ago and a rabbit or re bate ( OK so dyslexi got in ther e nad I shouid have spelt it rebbet, rabbet etc.
) was the current word for a groove ...they have just kept it but it ( rabbit and rebbit and any other similar sounding spelling so you pedantics can calm down 
) is also found in current English fine furniture making like wot I woz doin a mear 14 yrs agoo.It's their language and there are more of them than you ... so enjoy the cultural differences.
Re No 1 ... if you knew what the guys was after what's the difference ..

It's not a rabbit it's a rabbet and it's another name for a rebate still in use in English and American English. I cringe at the false Geordie accent used by announcers on TV telling about the programme coming next, if I'm going to watch it I don't want to hear what's going to happen beforehand.
